Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI)
WHAT IS A GDI SYSTEM?
Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) is a sophisticated engine that injects fuel precisely and at very high pressure directly into the combustion chamber. This direct injection provides higher fuel efficiency, higher power output, and significantly lower emissions.
WHY DO I HAVE TO CLEAN A GDI SYSTEM?
As GDI sends fuel directly to the combustion chamber without using the intake valve to clean the system, carbon deposits from fuel impurities and additives can build up in the system over time. Carbon build-up can lead to low fuel economy, loss of power, stalling, and even engine failure. To avoid this, regular maintenance like a GDI Fuel Induction Service is the best way to ensure your GDI engine stays in excellent working order.
WHEN SHOULD I PERFORM A GDI INDUCTION SERVICE?
Standard fuel injection services are recommended by manufacturers every 50-60K miles. However, a GDI engine differs from other fuel injection engines by operating in a more precise, high-pressure environment. Carbon build-up clogs fuel injectors and valves, causing valves to remain open longer which exposes the engine to even more carbon particles, potentially causing engine parts to fail. Carbon build-up may or may not trigger a check engine light, but it will certainly impede the engine from performing well and significantly decrease fuel economy. Performing a GDI Induction Service every 20K miles will help eliminate the need to manually deep clean engine components and replace corroded parts down the line.
Which vehicles have GDI Engines?
Nearly 75% of all vehicles manufactured by the largest manufacturers are made with GDI. Some manufacturers include Audi, BMW, Buick, Chrysler-Jeep Wrangler, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Kia, Lexus, Mazda, Nissan, Saab, Subaru, and Volkswagen.
GDI Induction Service
A GDI Induction Service may not be listed in the owner’s manual as required during service intervals, but it is still necessary when maintaining your GDI engine. Depending on the particles and additives within the gas you use, the carbon build-up can happen quickly. We have seen some GDI systems experience significant performance issues after as little as 3,000 miles.
Signs a GDI Induction Service may be needed:
- Hard Start
- Rough idle
- Decreased fuel economy
- Less engine power
- Slow acceleration
- Stalling
- Check engine light
- Failed emissions
This is AVERAGE carbon build-up. We’ve seen extreme cases after no GDI services were performed for 100K miles. The engine had to be dismantled for a full deep clean.
New Dimensions Automotive offers a professional 2-part GDI Induction Service, using specialized equipment and professional-grade cleaning products to aggressively clean critical engine components like the combustion chambers, intake valves, ports, and fuel injectors, without having to remove engine components. The GDI Induction Service will result in improved performance, improved fuel efficiency, and cleaner emissions. The cleaning products will continue to work even after you drive away!
